Journalism Internship

Job Description:

High school sports are an endless source of compelling stories, and the on-the-field happenings aren’t even half of the story. Tales of unbelievable victories, personal triumphs, undying perseverance, and heart-wrenching losses are not confined to the field of play, but often have roots in the home, school, and community.

Our mission is to discover, document, and display these stories in a way that accurately represent and honor those involved while actively engaging those not involved. No matter the medium, professionally presenting our content is at the forefront of our focus so that we provide no hindrance in highlighting the stories of remarkable people.

The bulk of this responsibility falls on our Journalism department. Writing for our seasoned magazine publications and digital platforms, our journalists are held to a standard of excellence. We are looking to build up a team of writers that can increase the quantity of content while upholding the quality that our readers expect.

Tasks:
– completing assigned stories, including scheduling and completing interviews, writing, and editing
– meeting deadlines for assigned stories, without exception
– individual initiative taken towards the production of additional, captivating stories
– meetings with management to receive assignments, establish vision, and evaluate performance
– once proven as an asset, compensation can be awarded per article provided

Requirements:

– A minimum of 15 hours in office per week. Days and times are to be determined at the onset of the internship by you, then management holds you to that schedule. Since it is an unpaid internship, we want to be extremely flexible and accommodating to your class and other schedules.

– You will need your own laptop with the necessary programs to use while at the office.

– Means of transportation to get to and from our office in a timely fashion. We are located at 115 N Patterson St in downtown Valdosta.
